Markus Forsberg is a Professor of Pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy, University of Eastern Finland. He currently discovers mechanisms of rare neurodegenerative diseases and novel treatment concepts for complex neuropsychiatric disorders as well as studies blood-brain barrier and placental transfer of drugs and potentially neurotoxic compounds.

Prof. Forsberg is also a Research Professor at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. He has acted as a Vice Head of the School of Pharmacy in 2015-2019. He has been PI of several research projects on the development of novel treatments and models for brain disorders, understanding blood-brain barrier penetration, and pharmaco/toxicokinetics. He has strong expertise in public-private partnerships and commercialization of research. Prof. Forsberg has served as a President of the Finnish Pharmacological society in 2014-2019 and a member of various national committees. He is currently an Executive Committee Member of the Federation of European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR).
