Karen Galea, PhD has worked at the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM), Edinburgh, UK, for over 21 years and is currently one of their Research Team Leads/Principal Scientists. She is actively involved in a wide variety of research projects, mainly focused on human exposure assessment relating to health risks. Her research has included dermal and biomonitoring exposure assessment for a range of agents including pesticides, hexavalent chromium, various metals, diesel, lubricating oils, etc. She has also been involved in various exposure model validation and evaluation studies. She is an active member of both the ISO/TC 146/SC2/WG8 and CEN TC/137/WG6 standards committees focused on dermal exposure assessment.
